WHY IS THE CHRISTIAN ETERNALLY SECURED

By Edwin Jardinel
Lesson 2

A true Christian is one who has repented of his sins, trusted Jesus Christ, and accepted Him as Lord and Savior. The Bible teaches that at the point he believes and receives Christ, he becomes a child of God (John 1:12). A child of God is eternally secured because no child of God will go to hell (Matt.7:11; Rom.8:17). Eternal security of the believer means that once a person is already saved, he is always saved and will never lose his salvation. He is sure of going to heaven and his destiny cannot be changed. He is eternally secured because:

A. JESUS IS THE SOURCE OF ETERNAL LIFE, I John 5:11-12.

And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
(1 John 5:11)

B. JESUS PROMISED NEVER TO LEAVE THE CHRISTIAN.

Q.17

That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
(Ephesians 3:17)

Q.18

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
(Hebrews 13:5)

Q.19
Is there anybody who can take the Christian away from Christ? *

And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
(John 10:28-29)

Q.20
If you are a believer, is there anything that could separate you from Christ? *

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Romans 8:35-39)

III. HE IS A CHILD OF GOD

A. A CHILD OF GOD WILL NEVER CEASE TO BE A CHILD OF GOD.

Q.21
Can the Father-and-son relationship be broken by the displeasing or sinful acts of the child? *

And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
(Hebrews 12:5-9)

Q.22
Can the wonderful fellowship of the Father and the child be broken by the displeasing and sinful deeds of the child? *

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
(1 John 1:5-6)

Q.23
What must a child do to restore his fellowship with the Father? *

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
(1 John 1:8-10)

Q.24
Are you a child of God? *

Q.25
If so, is there any possibility that you will lose your sonship? *

B. A CHILD OF GOD IS AN HEIR OF GOD.

Q.26
Are all men God's children? *

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
(John 8:44)
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
(1 John 3:8)

Q.27
Who are called as "God's children"? *

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
(John 1:12)

Q.28
Are God's children heirs of God? *

And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
(Romans 8:17)

Q.29
If you are a child of God, what will you inherit? *

And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
(Hebrews 9:15)
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
(John 14:1-3)
