THE GOSPEL

By Edwin Jardinel

The gospel means good news. In the Greek word, it is “EUANGELION” which originally denoted a reward for good tidings. Later, the idea of reward dropped and the word stood for the good news itself. (Vine’s Expository Dictionary of the New Testament). What is the good news in the Biblical sense? The Good News is that God is going to save anybody who will exercise personal belief in His Son -- Jesus Christ, on the basis of His death, burial, and resurrection. Jesus is the central focus on the Gospel message.

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
(1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
