Only Believe

There are many passages in the Bible that are being misunderstood and misinterpreted by many cults today. Let us study about some of the verses that are misunderstood especially by those who believe in salvation by works,


Is there a passage in the Bible in which Jesus stated "only believe"? *

As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

Did Jesus heal some men because of their faith during His earthly ministry? *

And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.

Are sinners compared to both sick and dead persons? *

Is salvation according to our works? *

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

What does Philippians 2: 12 mean? *

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
-Philippians 2:12

“Work out” means to produce a result. Example, work out your own assignments, it means you already have an assignment but you have to work it out. That means if you already have salvation you show it by your good works. That means salvation comes first then good works follow if you are already save. The reason why you can show good works when you are already save is because Christ is already working in you.
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
-Philippians 2:13

What does 2 Peter 1:5-9 mean? *

And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

Does Galatians 6: 2 teach that salvation is by works? *
